Alumnus Do Quy Duc – From Passion for Youth Union Activities to a Mathematics Programme for Children.

Mr Do Quy Duc was a student of the 2003–2007 cohort, studying at the Faculty of Economics, now the Faculty of Business Administration - International Economics, Lac Hong University, majoring in Business Administration, class 03QT2. He served as class monitor throughout all four years of university, leader of the volunteer task force group under the Youth Union Task Force Team of Lac Hong University, Member of the Executive Committee of the Student Association of the Faculty of Economics in 2005, and President of the Student Association of the Faculty of Economics in 2006. It can be seen that he was an active, enthusiastic student with a strong pioneering spirit, always demonstrating his role and talent while holding many important positions during his student years—something not many could achieve as he did.

It is known that the reason he chose to study at Lac Hong University was because the University organized the Green Summer Campaign. The application for entrance examination was actually submitted on his behalf by his elder brother. When he was admitted, on the day of submitting his enrollment documents, he asked the staff member receiving the documents whether the University organized the Green Summer Campaign for students. She replied yes, and he immediately submitted his documents (if she had said no, he would have transferred his documents to Binh Duong to study, as his elder brother was studying there at that time and his family had also oriented him in that direction), Mr Do Quy Duc shared.

His condition for choosing a university was truly unusual—unusual because it was completely different from other students. He had a very special mindset and passion, which is admirable. As a youth of the Communist Party of Vietnam, he affirmed his goals and ideals from the very beginning. It can be said that he was like a special star, sparkling with rays of light, a typical example for others to learn from and follow, worthy of the saying: “Wherever the youth are needed, they will be present; wherever there is difficulty, the youth will overcome it.”

Although many memories have passed, what he is most proud of and remembers most is that “I was the first person to register the earliest three times for the Green Summer Campaign of Lac Hong University in 2004, 2005, and 2006. In 2007, I was also the first to submit the application, but it was rejected because the leadership did not allow fourth-year (final-year) students to participate in the Green Summer Campaign. (Registration information for the Green Summer Campaign was only announced in early May, but from March and April, every few days, I went to the Youth Union Office to ask about registration.)” Such a strong spirit and determined will—perhaps his passion was dedication and contributing to society.
